At Jenner Law, we are proud to support students who embody resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to serving others. Each year, our Make a Difference Scholarship recognizes individuals whose journeys reflect not only personal perseverance but also a drive to uplift their communities. For 2025, we are honored to announce Brian Conceicao, a Master of Social Work (MSW) candidate at Bridgewater State University, as our graduate school recipient.
Brian’s path to social work is rooted in profound lived experience. A Navy veteran, he faced struggles with substance use and undiagnosed mental health challenges after completing his service. Those difficulties led to a period of homelessness that could have defined his future. Instead, in 2004, Brian sought help at the Veterans Transition House (VTH) in New Bedford, Massachusetts—a decision that saved his life and gave it renewed purpose.

For nearly two decades since, Brian has dedicated his career to the very organization that once gave him hope. Rising from an entry-level role to Program Manager of Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), he has helped countless veterans find stable housing, reconnect with loved ones, and access life-saving resources. Alongside his professional journey, he has pursued higher education as a non-traditional student, earning his Associate’s in Human Services, a Bachelor’s in Social Work, and now completing his MSW with the goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker.
Brian’s commitment extends far beyond his professional duties. He has mentored at-risk youth, volunteered as a coach and board member for local sports programs, and supported peers in recovery. His vision for the future includes advancing trauma-informed care for veterans, advocating for more inclusive services—particularly for women, LGBTQ+ service members, and underserved populations—and developing preventive programs that reach veterans before they reach a point of crisis.

Your support lifts a big weight off my shoulders and motivates me to keep moving forward and give back, Brian said. His ultimate goal is to take his personal and professional experience into senior leadership, where he can shape policy, funding priorities, and organizational culture to better serve veterans across southeastern Massachusetts and beyond.
